The Senior Revenue Accountant supports accurate, well-documented revenue recognition and month-end close execution for a software business, with a focus on services revenue recognized over time and ASC 606 analysis. You have a strong aptitude for learning, can quickly grasp complex revenue concepts and data, summarize key context, and manage day-to-day responsibilities in a fast-paced, high-growth business. This position will be based in Raleigh, NC, Austin, TX, or remotely and will report to the Senior Director, Quote to Cash.
What You’ll Do:
- Own services revenue reporting and analysis, including revenue recognized over time using the percentage-of-completion method in accordance with ASC 606; investigate variances and support an accurate month-end close.
- Partner with Services and project teams to review estimates to complete (ETCs), identify potential issues or needed adjustments before close, and ensure conclusions are supported.
- Prepare the monthly percentage-of-completion services revenue reconciliation, with clear support for project status, key assumptions, and changes in estimates.
- Perform standalone selling price (SSP) analysis and investigate revenue allocation issues in NetSuite Advanced Revenue Management (ARM).
- Prepare and review deferred revenue reconciliations and related month-end journal entries.
- Analyze principal-versus-agent arrangements and document conclusions under ASC 606.
- Prepare monthly RMAs for credit requests and work with sales and billing teams to ensure accuracy.
- Prepare monthly contract combination file for director review.
- Support annual financial statement audits by preparing schedules, responding to auditor requests, and maintaining organized documentation.
- Improve revenue accounting processes, controls, and reporting; collaborate across Accounting, Services, Sales, Legal, and other teams; and contribute to ad hoc projects and automation.
- Occasional travel required for team events to support engagement, relationship building, and key decision-making.
What You’ll Need:
- 5+ years of revenue accounting experience, including responsibility for revenue recognition and month-end close.
- Strong knowledge of ASC 606, including over-time revenue recognition, performance obligations, SSP allocation, contract modifications, and principal-versus-agent considerations.
- Hands-on proficiency with NetSuite, including the Advanced Revenue Management (ARM) module.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience analyzing large datasets, preparing reconciliations, and producing clear, reliable support.
- Experience preparing account reconciliations, analyzing variances, and posting or reviewing month-end journal entries.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, sound judgment, attention to detail, and a process-oriented approach.
- Demonstrates exceptional attention to detail, producing accurate, complete, and well-supported reconciliations, analyses, and journal entries.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with teams outside Accounting.
- Experience supporting annual audits; public accounting or audit experience is a plus. Software industry and services revenue experience are also a plus.
- Curiosity and adaptability, including interest or experience using AI and automation tools to improve accounting work.
